It might be unusual to have a competition finished so early in the season but the 21 football championship was decided on Sunday last when Bal edged out Kilmeen in an exciting contest at Enniskeane. In a game which could have gone either way, Bal got off to the better start and were four points to the good following points from Cillian Cullinane and one from Daniel Nyhan. There were many missed chances in that first half when point opportunities went a begging. However Kilmeen responded with two of their own to narrow the gap before Bal again took control around the middle and notched a total of seven before the short whistle with the losers adding one more to leave the score 0-07 to 0-03. On the resumption it was well balanced with Kilmeen, now playing with the breeze, piling on the pressure but Bal maintained the four point margin and crucially scored the decisive and only goal of the game. A ball out of defence was gathered by Barry Walsh who passed to Sean Condon and he laid off to Aidan O’Donovan with his pin point diagonal delivery from the side-line landing in the danger area where Cian Hennessey punched to the net. This put Bal seven points up but a very fit Kilmeen outfit finished strongly and there was just one goal in it at the end 1-10 to 0-10.
