Bal advance to semi final v Skibb   09/03/2014

Ballinascarthy 1-15 ;  Muintir Bhaire 1-10

The Bal U21 team played their opening game of the championship on Sunday (9th March) at a well prepared Leap. Cillian Cullinane who notched up eleven points over the hour popped over the opening score from play. The losers had the next two points before a placed ball from Cullinane brought parity to the scores again. Aidan O’Donovan edged Bal in front in the eighteenth minute but again the scores were tied shortly afterwards. The next five minutes was all Bal with three unanswered points but a tenacious Munitir Bhaire launched an attack and were awarded a penalty which was expertly converted to again tie the game. However this was the catalyst that sprung Bal into action with Barry Walsh racing out of defence who laid the perfect pass to Daniel Nyhan and he finished with aplomb to the net. Two more points before the break from Cullinane and Nyhan left Bal five clear at the break.

On the turnaround Bal restarted as they finished and added three more points, the Durrus lads replied with two before Bal added two more to maintain a healthy advantage. However the westerners proved hard to shake off and scored some fine points from play before the end of the game but Bal had the final say and appropriately it was Cillian Cullinane who had the last score of the game in injury time.

Team: Cathal Nyhan, Mikey Kirby, Chris Ryan, Brendan Deasy, Daniel O’Brien, Jeremy Ryan, Barry Walsh, Seamus McCarthy, Gerry Ryan, Eoin O’Brien, Aidan O’Donovan, Cian Hennessey, Sean Condon, Cillian Cullinane, Luke Murray. Subs: Daniel Nyhan, David O’Brien, Colin Crowley, Tomas Ryan
